I love learning and I love a challenge. As I prepare for Surtex 2017, I continue to push myself to learn new ways of making patterns. I have been wanting to use some of my photography to create patterns and textural elements for my patterns for awhile now. And this week, while participating in Make It In Design's Winter School, I have been able to do just that. The challenge for the brief was to use some natural elements to create some marbling effects. This is an image of some water grasses I took while kayaking. The colors beaming from down below my boat were incredible. I had no idea how I might use these images, but I am so happy that I had them to tap into for this project. I have been an avid Illustrator user, and this week I took my shoes off and decided to jump into Photoshop with both feet and start playing. And I must say I am LOVING it! I can't wait to see what this week's challenge will bring. In the meantime, it's time for more organizing and sorting for Surtex!
